"Meeting with Mr. B" addresses UN activities around the world

Rodrigo Botura

The week of August 15th, students from several grades met with Mr. Rodrigo Botura. He is a former Chapel teacher who is currently teaching English at the United Nations (UN). English is one of the official languages of the organization. He does not work alone; Mr. Botura is member of a team that supports communities in fields such as nutrition, health and sanitation, as well as education.

Students were excited and asked questions throughout the various meetings held for Elementary grade levels. First grade teacher Ms. Kahlie Graves commented, "It was very inspiring and engaging for students to understand Mr. Botura’s work and about the UN. They were happy to know that there are jobs like his." The teacher showed images of the places he has worked and the students were amazed by such cultural diversity. "The students were very receptive and asked many questions, curious about his activities and the cities he has visited," said Ms. Esther Hwang, second grade teacher.

The UN is located in New York, where he is when not on missions. Children from around the world regularly visit the organization's headquarters. While meeting with the students at Chapel, the former teacher distributed materials about the UN with games, drawings and other recreational activities.
