Fourth grade students have been engaged in a cross curricular project called The Country Choice Project.  Integrating the nonfiction unit in “Being a Writer” and Social Studies this project presented the students with the challenge of being Presidents of a startup company that was planning to relocate to another country in order to expand.  They were given a deadline to present the country of their choice to their employees who were relocating with them.  Firstly, they had to research countries around the world to find the best fit for their company because the resources had to support their company.  Secondly, they researched the country’s climate, geography, housing, culture, schooling and recreational activities to best convince the employees to move with the company.  Working individually, in partnerships, or small groups, they created high quality visual aids and professional looking presentations.  Then they presented to an authentic audience that consisted of Chapel teachers and administrators.
